Amir Taheri did a great service reporting on the massive terrorism conference being held in Tehran in tandem with the celebrations for a quarter-century of the Islamic Revolutionary Regime. An interesting detail in his reporting is that besides the obvious Islamist terrorist groups (Sunni groups as well as the Shia Hezbollah) secular Middle Eastern groups and terror groups from around the world are participating. The secular Middle Eastern groups' participation should be no surprise - it was the PFLP-GC that led the way in making entreaties to the Islamic Iranian regime. Arafat's Fatah helped foster the revolution. But for Latin American and European groups to participate is very interesting. It is yet another indication of that anti-Americanism (and really anti-freedom) conquers all other ideological divides. Nothing unifies like hatred.
It ought to be a strategic concern as well. Exchange of intelligence and techniques, and collaboration between terror networks, greatly magnifies the capability of terrorist organizations. Hezbollah and Iran - probably the premier terrorists (the A-team according to US Deputy Secretary of State Armitage) today are particularly expert at manufacturing explosives, planning simultaneous attacks, and agent handling. They are known to have shared with Hamas and al-Qaeda, but they are probably also sharing with the well-funded and deadly FARC in Columbia, for example, could make them even more dangerous.
